Active House Alliance

Glass gives more than it takesActive House is a vision of buildings that create healthier and more comfortable lives for their occupants without negative impact on the climate - moving us towards a cleaner, healthier and safer world.

"Buildings that give more than they take"
Active Houses can be new-build or renovation. They can be homes, offices or public buildings. Active House proposes a target framework for how to design and renovate such buildings that contribute positively to human health and well-being by focusing on the indoor and outdoor environment and the use of renewable energy.

Three pillars

ENERGY : Contributes positively to the energy balance of the building
An Active House is energy efficient and all energy needed is supplied by renewable energy sources integrated in the building or from the nearby collective energy system and electricity grid.

INDOOR CLIMATE : Creates a healthier and more comfortable life for the occupants
An Active House creates healthier and more comfortable indoor conditions for the occupants and the building ensures a generous supply of daylight and fresh air. Materials used have a positive impact on comfort and indoor climate.

ENVIRONMENT : Has a positive impact on the environment
An Active House interacts positively with the environment by means of an optimized relationship with the local context, focused use of resources, and on its overall environmental impact throughout its Life Cycle.

The Alliance is made of almost 50 partners (companies, institutes, organizations and individual persons). Both Saint-Gobain Glass and Glassolutions have joined the Alliance in October 2011.
Saint-Gobain Multi-Comfort program

The Saint-Gobain Group contributes significantly to conceptualizing the buildings of tomorrow. Our aim is always to be one step ahead of the regulations, proving that our products are already ready for the future.

One of the initiatives has been the design and construction of an energy-positive home (producing more energy than it consumes) which involved every one of the Group's business sectors. Glassolutions played an active part in this initiative, supplying the glazing inside and outside the home.

This French example will be implemented soon in the UK. Saint-Gobain Glass soon in other european countries.
